Jawaharlal Nehru, India’s Prime Minister from 1947 to 1964, was more than a political revolutionary. He also brought forward a new look throughout Indian culture which was appropriately named the Nehru Suit. Many famous politicians, actors, and musicians throughout India, Europe, and North America adopted the mandarin collar suit in the early 70’s. American designers, such as Ralph Lauren, have even shown their own take of the Nehru jacket on the runway. Although this style came to fruition in the 1960’s, it’s still considered an elegant, simplistic look that is bound to turn heads.
